A DS-200 folder inserter for Santa Claus
The Santa Claus Greeting Center, founded in 2000 in Rovaniemi on the arctic circle in the North of Finland, is a family-run business. The company’s main activity focuses on producing letters from Santa Claus for children all around the world. Sending personalized communications from Rovaniemi, Santa’s hometown, makes these letters unique, enhancing the mystery associated with this festive season.
A Busy Christmas Season
Antti Huhtala, CEO of the Santa Claus Greeting Center, recently decided to invest in a solution in order to help his enterprise cope with its peak period which starts at the end of October and finishes at the end of January. “Over the Christmas period approximately 150,000 letters are sent to children in 180 countries in 19 languages and we needed to find a way to deal with this volume quickly and efficiently” explains Mr Huhtala.
Highly-productive Mail Processing
Quadient recommended the DS-200 folder inserter to Antti. This machine can automatically fold and insert up to 200,000 items of mail per month at a rate of 4,800 envelopes an hour. The folder inserter’s ergonomics and high-level of modularity mean that up to 11 feeders can be added if necessary. The DS-200 is easy to use and its color touch screen and user interface mean that operators can switch from one job to another.
A Touch of Finnish Folklore
According to Finnish traditions Santa’s secret workshop is in Korvatunturi (Ear Mountain) on the Finnish-Russian border. This is where toys are made and the ear-shaped structure of the mountain means that Santa Claus and his elves can listen to children to find out whether or not they have been good.
Rovaniemi however is Santa’s official place of residence and this is where he sends out his personalized messages. Santa’s letters say that he has heard from someone, such as a grandparent, that the child has been good, he congratulates the child and encourages him or her to keep up the good work.
Three Messages from Santa:
This year’s letters from Antti’s team ask children to:
- Be good to others by being friendly and helpful
- Be good to themselves by learning new things, eating healthy food and taking part in sports and cultural activities
- Be good to the environment by recycling, taking care of animals and protecting nature
A Magical Moment
Letter writing is a disappearing skill because of text messages, emails and other electronic messaging tools. And as Antti explains ”paper letters from Santa are important as they help children learn about traditions. Receiving a personalized letter from Father Christmas is a very special experience for any child.”
“This folder inserter is fast and reliable, enabling us to increase productivity.”
Antti Huhtala, CEO of the Santa Claus Greeting Center, Finland
Efficient Customer Communications
The Santa Claus Greeting Center finds Quadient's folding and inserting system fast and reliable. The DS-200 was switched on in mid-November and has been working well ever since. “The whole installation process went well and Quadient explained everything to us very clearly“confirms Antti.
